Northland High School senior Trey Burke recently made a verbal commitment to play men's basketball for the University of Michigan.

Burke, who helped the Vikings win the 2009 Division I state championship, was a ThisWeek Super 12 selection last season as Northland earned a regional runner-up finish. Burke averaged 14.5 points, was among the area leaders in assists at more than seven per game, shot 50 percent from 3-point range and made second-team all-district last season.

Northland followed a 27-1 season in 2009 by going 23-1 last winter. Burke originally verbally committed to Penn State before changing his mind over the summer.
