Northland High School junior girls basketball player Alexis Peterson scored her 1,000th career point during a 92-14 win over Briggs on Feb. 18 in the first round of the Division I district tournament.
Peterson, who averages 18 points and made the ThisWeek Super 12 a year ago, entered the Briggs game needing eight points to reach the milestone, according to coach Dean Washington. She finished with 12 points.
Peterson, who has offers from Division I programs such as Illinois, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Xavier, averaged 14 points a year ago and has been a starter since her freshman season.
She helped the Vikings win their first City League championship since 1998 with a 45-37 win over Africentric on Feb. 11. Last season, she led Northland to its first Division I district title since 1983.
