The football team hopes to have another big offensive performance against Brookhaven when it plays host to the Bearcats on Friday, Aug. 31.
Last season, the Stallions beat Brookhaven 48-12.
DeSales was held to 37 yards rushing and 108 total yards in a 13-10, triple-overtime loss to Gahanna in its opener Aug. 24.
Quarterback Alex Perrine had 25 rushes for just 3 yards and running back J.T. Blubaugh had 36 yards rushing on 17 attempts. The Stallions' only touchdown came when Perrine hit wide receiver Oliver Grimard for a 20-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Perrine was 8-for-13 passing for 71 yards.
Defensively, DeSales held Gahanna to 102 yards rushing on 31 carries.
Brookhaven rushed for just 55 yards in a 20-14 loss to Marion-Franklin on Aug. 24. Bearcats quarterback Kevin Greenhow passed for 203 yards with two touchdowns and one interception but completed just nine of 28 attempts.
Brookhaven's expected No. 1 running back, Blake McEwen, went down with a broken collarbone early against the Red Devils and could be out for at least six weeks, according to coach Trevor White. What to expect
Ohio State freshman Warren Ball rushed for six touchdowns for DeSales last season against the Bearcats, but the Stallions have switched from a power running game back to the option after taking a one-year break from the offense. Perrine and Blubaugh are the top returnees. Among Perrine's targets are Grimard and Sanders, each of whom has good speed.
Brookhaven likely will center its offense around Greenhow, especially after running back Blake McEwen went down with a broken collarbone early in the loss to Marion-Franklin. McEwen could be out for at least six weeks, according to Bearcats coach Trevor White.
Greenhow has a group of fast receivers as well, led by Backus and Towns.
According to White, Devonte Lewis, Mike Fair and Ke'ore Turner are the top candidates to fill in for McEwen.
