Acquista, swimmers fare well at Northeast Classic

Andrea Acquista led the DeSales High School girls swimming and diving team in the Northeast Classic on Jan. 11 and 12 at Branin Natatorium in Canton.

The senior placed fourth in 1-meter diving with 424.65 points.

Also for the girls team, sophomore Anne Marie Cummins placed 13th in the 100-yard backstroke (1 minute, 1.23 seconds ) and 18th in the 100 butterfly (1:01.07). Senior Eddy Cordek led the boys team, placing seventh in the 100 back (55.84) and 23rd in the 50 freestyle (23.0).

Team scores were not kept in the Northeast Classic. The meet was held at the same site as the state meet, which runs Feb. 20-23.

School set to recognize championship teams

Members of six DeSales state championship teams will be honored during halftime of the boys basketball team's CCL game against Watterson on Feb. 13 at Otterbein University.

Being recognized are the 1982 girls volleyball, the 1992 boys soccer, the 1993 boys gymnastics and the 1997 football, boys soccer and girls soccer teams. Honorees are invited to the alumni suite in the Rike Center for food and refreshments.

The varsity game will start at approximately 8 p.m.
