Ticket sales for the 2013 New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and Family Day have increased since the announcement less than two weeks ago that Ariana Grande and Emblem3 would play the annual Tween Brands Concert, an event organizer said.
"Since we announced the concert online, and with the Justice and Brothers stores reopening at Easton, we saw immediate ticket sales on the website," event coordinator Stephanie Lorenz said. "We're ahead of where were last year (in ticket sales)."
Lorenz said she expects the Classic will sell out again this year.
The event, which includes an internationally sanctioned horse-jumping competition and family-friendly activities, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the home of Leslie and Abigail Wexner in New Albany.
Proceeds benefit the Nationwide Children's Hospital Center for Family Safety and Healing.
The Classic's concert typically features up-and-coming musicians chosen by Tween Brands, which "knows what is hot with 'tween' kids and what's going to be hot for the next six to 12 months," Lorenz said.
She said the Tween Brands Concert, which this year is sponsored by Justice and Brothers, has featured the Jonas Brothers, Big Time Rush, Hot Chelle Rae and others, all of whom have had successful careers.
The concert has caught the attention of recording artists and record labels, which are now courting the Classic as an important step in a music career, she said.
"We're being told that these rising bands and singers are asking to be booked at the Classic," Lorenz said. "It's unique how bands are starting to reach out to us to come to the event."
Grande, who started her career on Nickelodeon's Victorious, sold 1 million copies of her first single, The Way.
Emblem3, which features Keaton and Wesley Stromberg and Drew Chadwick, will tour with Selena Gomez on the North American leg of her 2013 Stars Dance Tour, which begins Aug. 14 in Canada.
Tickets for the New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and Family Day are $20; children younger than 10 are admitted free.
