Bruce Leary, who coached the Bloom-Carroll High School softball team to Division III state championships in 2006 and '07, recently was selected the first coach at Olentangy Orange pending board approval.
The Bulldogs, who also won a district title in 2004, fell 3-0 to Hebron Lakewood on May 22 in a district final to snap a 17-game tournament winning streak. Bloom-Carroll went 17-10 this season.
Leary's daughter, Kate Ross, is Liberty's coach.
"It's very exciting to have someone with his track record," Orange athletics director Tony Milano said. "We're starting a brand-new program and we're getting a guy with state championships on his resume. His daughter is the coach at Liberty, which is kind of a story in itself."
Orange also hired Jen Hedrick as gymnastics coach earlier this month.
Hedrick, who is a teacher in the district, has served as an assistant under Misty Lloyd-Matthews at both Olentangy and Liberty. She also was Westerville North's head coach in 2005.
"She's got a good amount of experience and a lot of our kids already know her," Milano said. "She's a great addition to our staff."
