With the closing of the Germain Amphitheater at Polaris this season, graduation ceremonies for both Olentangy high schools will move to the Celeste Center, at the Ohio Expo Center (state fairgrounds) just north of downtown Columbus.

The Celeste Center has a 10,200 capacity for concerts which should easily accommodate the 640 graduates from the two high schools and their guests at the May 31 ceremonies, said Olentangy High School Principal Mindy Farry.

"The Celeste Center was the only place that we felt we could still have that intimate feel to the ceremony without limiting the number of people who could attend," she said. She has also attended other ceremonies there and knew they "do a nice job" setting up for graduation.

The 336 members of the class of 2008 from Olentangy High School will graduate at 11 a.m. on May 31. Class valedictorians are Greg Hawk and Lu Chen.

The 304 seniors at Olentangy Liberty High School will graduate at 2 p.m. the same day. Class valedictorian is David Ma.

The number of graduating seniors can change before the ceremonies after final grades are posted, according to school officials.

All graduation ceremonies are open to the public.
