for holiday parade
The city of Powell is accepting entry forms from those wishing to participate in the Memorial Day parade.
The 2009 event will begin at 10 a.m. on May 25. Parade forms must be received by May 1.
Parade formation will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the staging area on Grace Drive. Vehicles must be in their designated spots by 9:15 a.m., and all participants must be in their spots by 9:45 a.m. City staff members will determine the placement of parade entries.
The parade will step off on Grace Drive, follow it west to North Liberty Street, head south on Liberty to Olentangy Street, turn right on Olentangy and continue west. The parade ends at Powell Road (Olentangy Street) at the railroad tracks. Parade vehicles may park at the Municipal Building, 45 Hall St., or proceed west on Powell Road over the railroad tracks to leave the area.
All participants must include an American flag in their parade unit. Wearing red, white and blue is encouraged. Handouts such as candy must be handed to parade spectators; they may not be thrown from moving vehicles or by walking participants.
Units that include animals such as horses must provide their own clean-up crew for the parade route.
The parade will be held rain or shine.
