Historic Downtown Powell Inc. has announced the dates for its three street markets for the warm-weather season.

The first downtown Powell street market will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in the four-corners area at Olentangy and Liberty streets. The other street markets will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays, July 26 and Sept. 13.

Several things are new this year, said Anna Steck of Historic Downtown Powell.

For the first time, the market will expand into the south block in front of the new businesses at 50 S. Liberty Road, Steck said.

This year, each of the three markets will feature a different local charity.

On May 3, a collection area for People in Need will be set up. The Delaware County organization assists county families and individuals by providing personal emergency assistance, Steck said. Visitors are encouraged to donate new nonperishable, nonglass food items or new small office supplies. All donations will go directly to PIN for use by families in the county.

Also new, next to Nicole's for Children, local craft vendors will feature their handmade children's products: diaper bags, bibs, baby blankets, clothing, backpacks and toys, Steck said.

The street market is a 32-year tradition in Powell and has grown to more than 125 vendors scheduled for this year.

"The goal of street market is to bring visitors into the area, to promote our local businesses," Steck said.

Vendors are encouraged to pre-register because of limited space. Space rental is still available until 8:45 a.m. on market days at city hall, 47 Hall St.

People interested in volunteering or reserving a booth should contact Steck at (614) 396-3336 or asteck@ hdpinc.org.
