Forty-five Olentangy students in grades three through eight earned perfect scores on at least one section of the spring 2009 Ohio Achievement Tests. Three students earned perfect scores on two test sections, a district record and a 20 percent increase in perfect scores from 2008.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced an additional 2,000 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities.

Area residents receiving scholarships were Katherine Hoppenjans of Lewis Center and Ryan Fraser of Powell. Hoppenjans received a Vanderbilt University scholarship and Fraser a Denison University scholarship.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their winners from finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
