Six Powell residents are running for four city council seats in the November election. One is an incumbent, another seeks to stay in the seat to which he was appointed, and four are seeking office for the first time.

Six Powell residents are running for four city council seats in the November election. One is an incumbent, another seeks to stay in the seat to which he was appointed, and four are seeking office for the first time.

Ronald Beach, 69, of Paddock Circle East, has been a Powell resident since 1993. He has a bachelor's degree and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati. He retired last year from United Church Homes, for which he served as chief financial officer for 28 years. This is his first time seeking public office in Powell.

Sara Marie Brenner, 29, of Clearview Lake Court, has been a resident of Powell since 2003 and Liberty Township her entire life, except when she was away at college. She is an Olentangy High School graduate and studied political science and international relations at Ohio State University, musical theatre and music business at Belmont University and music education at Capital University. She is president-CEO and part-owner of Prestige Music Studios Inc. and the Right Idea, LLC. This is her first time seeking public office. Thomas Counts, 48, of Beech Ridge Drive, has been a Powell resident for 14 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Ohio Northern University and a law degree from Ohio State. He is employed as real estate counsel for State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio. He was elected to city council in 2005, and has served as mayor since January 2008. He was appointed to a vacant council seat in 2003, serving seven months, but lost his run for that seat in November 2003.

Trent Hartranft, 35, of Francine Lane, has been a Powell resident since 2004.

He holds a bachelor's in sports science from Ohio University. He is a clinical sales consultant for Phadia U.S. Inc. This is his first time seeking public office.

Jim Hrivnak, 49, of Delaney's Circle, has lived in Powell since 1999.

He holds a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. He is a senior engineer, with 27 years at Veyance Technologies, a manufacturer of Goodyear conveyor belting in Marysville. He was appointed to a vacant city council seat in June 2008.

Brian Lorenz, 36, of Hickory Rock Drive, has been a resident of Powell since 2006.

He holds a bachelor's in geography and planning from University of Toledo and a master's of city and regional planning from Ohio State.

He also holds two professional accreditations: American Institute of Certified Planners and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

He is a planning consultant for W.D. Partners. This is his first time seeking public office.
