The St. Charles Preparatory School boys golf team hopes to live up to the praise bestowed upon it by area coaches, who voted the Cardinals as the top seed for the Division I sectional tournament Tuesday. The field of teams is divided between courses at Darby Creek, Granville Golf Club and The Players Club at Foxfire.

St. Charles earned the top seed over other league champions after cruising through CCL play at 10-0 and breaking Watterson's streak of 11 consecutive CCL titles.

"I wanted to make sure it's a paper ranking," said St. Charles coach Anthony Mampieri, whose team tees off at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Granville. "I'm pretty sure this is the first time it's ever happened (St. Charles being the top seed). I don't know if I would have voted that way, but it's definitely an honor."

Dublin Jerome, which finished second at state last year to Cincinnati St. Xavier, was seeded second, with Mount Vernon, Dublin Coffman and Pickerington North rounding out the top five.

The top four teams and top four individuals on non-qualifying teams from the Darby Creek sectional and top three teams and top three individuals on non-qualifying teams from the Granville and Players Club sectionals advance to the district tournament Oct. 13 at Apple Valley.
