Olentangy Local Schools has announced that 242 members of the classes of 2009 and 2010 earned 2009 AP Scholar Awards for exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement exams.

Olentangy Local Schools has announced that 242 members of the classes of 2009 and 2010 earned 2009 AP Scholar Awards for exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement exams.

About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7-million students worldwide who took AP exams earn a scholar award, according to information from Olentangy.

Students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams receive AP Scholar Awards. Districtwide, 115 students earned this award.

Students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams, receive AP Scholar with Honor Awards. A total of 46 Olentangy students earned this award.

Students who receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams receive AP Scholar with Distinction Awards. A total of 81 Olentangy students earned this award, and eight also qualified as National AP Scholars for receiving an average grade of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more exams.

Christopher Degroodt and Gage Green, both seniors at Olentangy High School, have been named Burger King Scholars.

They will receive $1,000 scholarships in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and community involvement.

Scholarships are provided through the Have It Your Way Foundation. They are among 40 winners in Ohio.
