Orange Friends Church, 3467 E. Orange Road, Lewis Center, will hold a soup and silent auction fundraiser to help a Columbus family from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the church.

The family of Bruce and Debbie Fingerhut needs to purchase a taller handicap van to aid in transporting their son, Dustin, 16, who has cerebral palsy.

Dustin, who is assisted by a wheelchair, has outgrown the height of the family's van, said event organizer Robert Jones. Dustin risks hitting his head as the wheelchair lift puts him in the van, Jones said.

The event includes the sale of homemade soup, chili and baked goods, as well as hot dogs. There will be a silent auction of handmade items, antiques and merchandise.

The family attends the church and is having difficulty paying for the van, Jones said.

"We are trying to help them raise money," Jones said.
