Historic Downtown Powell Inc. has announced dates for its 2010 Downtown Powell Street Markets.

The first of the three markets will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 2, in the historic downtown Powell area near the intersection of Powell and Liberty roads. Subsequent dates are Sundays, July 25 and Sept. 12. The street market occurs rain or shine.

The street market includes more than 125 vendors of antiques, collectibles, arts and crafts, and handmade products

Booths will include antiques, vintage jewelry, original watercolor paintings, a henna tattoo artist, handcrafted wooden items, artisan silver, pewter jewelry, homemade perfume, melted glass wine bottle serving trays, garden items and plants, said Anna Steck, executive director of Historic Downtown Powell Inc.

Jaynie Hamilton will wear an 1850s-period costume as she demonstrates chair caning near the four corners from noon to 4 p.m. each day, Steck said.

Chair caning uses thin strips of wood to seats and backs for wooden chairs.

"I thought it would fit in nicely because it's a historic type of art," Steck said. "Not too many people do chair caning."

Additionally, bluegrass, banjo and other local musicians will perform, a press release said.

Food and drink will be for sale, Steck said.

Lemonade, kettle corn, pizza, wings, health foods, smoothies, barbecue chicken, pulled pork and fries are some of the treats people can purchase.

"It's another quality family-friendly, safe event here within our own wonderful city of Powell," Steck said as she recommended that people attend the event. "Why would you travel elsewhere when you have such quality merchandise, local artisans and our own wonderful stores and restaurants?"

Each market usually draws 4,000 central Ohio customers during the eight-hour period, Steck said.

Two public parking lots are available at 47 Hall St. and 44 N. Liberty Road

Steck said local families are encouraged to walk to the event.

While vendors are encouraged to pre-register because of limited space, rental is still available until 8:45 a.m. on market days at 44 N. Liberty St.
