Two townships will have levies on the May 4 nonpartisan ballots.

Orange Township voters will decide a three-year, 1.5-mill parks renewal levy.

Berlin Township will ask voters to approve a replacement fire levy.

Orange Township's renewal levy would replace the current levy that will expire Dec. 31. It would raise about $1.62-million annually, Shari Baker of the Delaware County auditor's office said in an e-mail. It would continue to collect at its current effective rate of 1.4956 mills.

Property owners would not see an increase in taxes, parks board chairperson Jennifer Christian said.

The renewal levy would cost property owners $45.80 annually for each $100,000 of assessed residential valuation, township maintenance and parks director Beth Hugh said in an e-mail. The cost to the owner of a residential property valued at $300,000 would be $137.40.

Township officials plan to spend about $2.87-million this year on park improvements, such as continuing development of the 22-acre Glen Oak Park on Blue Holly Drive and new leisure trails.

Berlin Township's 2.98-mill, five-year levy will replace the current 2.98-mill, four-year levy that will expire Dec. 31.

Baker said the cost to residents will remain about the same.

The expiring fire levy brings in $693,435 annually. The replacement fire levy is estimated to bring in $700,278 a year, Baker wrote in an e-mail.

The additional $6,843 revenue is "coming from commercial properties, because the commercial rate is being collected at 2.7355 (mills) right now. With a replacement levy, that will go back up to 2.98, generating additional revenue," Baker said.

The replacement levy will cost property owners $91.26 annually for each $100,000 of assessed residential valuation, Baker said. The cost to the owner of a residential property valued at $300,000 will be $273.79.

The replacement levy will continue the funding of the fire department's current level of service, township officials have said.
