Sawmill Baptist Church will hold a fund and winter items drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at its facility,10635 Sawmill Road, in Powell.

The church is partnering with Better Way Ministry to collect items for people in need in the Short North area of Columbus. The organizations will provide financial assistance, winter clothing and sheltering items.

Needed items include blankets; flashlights with batteries; sleeping bags; long-tapered candles; tarps, 8 x 10 feet or 10 x 12 feet; men's gloves size large or extra large; any sized women's gloves; knit stocking caps; two- to three-man tents; and men's white socks. All donated items should be new.

People making donations will be eligible to enter a drawing for prizes, including a Jim Tressel autographed football.

The Powell United Methodist Church will celebrate Christmas Eve with several worship services.

The services begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, when a contemporary worship service will be held in the church fellowship hall.

A children's service will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 24.

A youth-led candlelight service will be at 6 p.m., and traditional candlelight services will be held at 8 and 10 p.m.

The church is at 825 E. Olentangy St. in Powell, just west of state Route 315.
