Hobby Lobby announced it will open a store at 1420 Gemini Place, just north of the Polaris Fashion Place mall.

The 55,000-square-foot building is under construction at Gemini Place Towne Center, said Vince Parker, Hobby Lobby director of customer service.

The arts, crafts and home decorating store is expected to open the summer of 2011.

"With over 65,000 products in 13 departments, Hobby Lobby is the place to shop for super selection and savings every day. You can personalize your world with our crafting supplies, home accents, custom frames and more. We offer the widest variety of crafting supplies you will find in one location with new merchandise arriving all the time," Parker said.

Hobby Lobby selected the Polaris area because " we feel that the market is under-served and that we can bring a very unique shopping experience to the area," Parker said.

The Columbus metropolitan area has received a lot of attention as one of the best places to raise a family and one of the best big cities to live in and relocate to, said company assistant vice president of advertising, John Schumacher.

"By expanding our reach further into Ohio, we are able to better serve and share in the growth of both the community and the state. At the same time, we look forward to giving our customers an enriched experience in the crafts and home dcor market with exceptional service, selection and value," said John Schumacher, assistant vice president of advertising, in a press release.

The new store will bring 30 to 50 jobs to the area, Parker said, including cashiers, stockers, custom framers, an office manager, a floral designer and department heads.

Store departments include "floral, fabric, needlework, art, hobbies, wearables, jewelry, crafts, cards and party, scrap booking, seasonal and home accents," Parker said.

"Pay for full-time employees starts at $11 hour and $8 for part-time," he said.

The company also offers its classrooms to anyone who wants to teach, Parker said.

"If someone would like to teach, please contact our store manager once the store opens. Some exclusions do apply," he said.

The store's opening date has not yet been determined.

Hobby Lobby is a privately held retail chain of more than 462 stores in 39 states, a press release said.

The Gemini Place store will be the 30th Hobby Lobby to open in Ohio.

Hobby Lobby was founded in Oklahoma City in 1972 with 300 feet of retail space.

The chain operates from a 4.1-million-square-foot office, manufacturing and distribution center.
