The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians recently announced Dr. W. Fred Miser of Powell was named as the recipient of the 2013 American Academy of Family Physicians' Exemplary Teaching Award for full-time faculty.

* The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians recently announced Dr. W. Fred Miser of Powell was named as the recipient of the 2013 American Academy of Family Physicians' Exemplary Teaching Award for full-time faculty.

This award was developed to acknowledge Academy members who deserve recognition of exemplary teaching skills, as well as individuals who have implemented outstanding educational programs and/or developed innovative teaching models.

Miser has been practicing family medicine for 27 years with areas of research interest including diabetes, health literacy and cardiovascular disease prevention. Recently, he was promoted to professor of family medicine at the Ohio State University, Department of Family Medicine. In addition, Miser serves as the director of the OSU Family Medicine Residency Program and is lead physician at the Rardin Family Practice Center, Columbus.

Miser will be formally recognized during the 2013 OAFP Members Assembly's business session Aug. 10 at Marriott Columbus Northwest in Dublin. He will also be recognized by the AAFP at the 2013 AAFP Scientific Assembly in September.
