Peggy Guzzo has joined the race for two open spots on the Liberty Township board of trustees.
She is expected to appear on the ballot along with Dr. Tom Mitchell, Shyra Eichhorn, Vince Margello and John K. Hartman. They are competing for seats that currently are held by trustees Curt Sybert and Mary Carducci.
The former Liberty Township trustee and former Powell City Council member was the last candidate to file, turning in her petition at the Delaware County Board of Elections' Aug. 7 deadline.
Leading up to filing deadline, Guzzo said she was unsure if she would run but had been strongly considering the possibility of moving forward because of how much time and effort she already devotes to township matters by looking into contracts and attending meetings.
"My supporters were asking me to run again and I want to be efficient with my time," she said. "It's better to be on the board than spend hundreds of hours outside the board trying to fix things."
Most recently, Guzzo was outspoken about her disapproval of the Joint Economic Development Zone proposed for the township, Powell and city of Bexley.
An attorney at her own firm, she is a member of the Columbus Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association and the Ohio Mediation Association. She also serves on the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, the Juvenile Law Committee and the board for the Delaware County Common Ground Free Store.
Guzzo, 48, and her husband, Vince, have lived in the township or in Powell for 17 years. They have two children; one attends Liberty High School and the other attends Miami University.
Guzzo also was on the Liberty Township ballot in 2011 when she ran against incumbent Mark Gerber for the position of fiscal officer.
