Resident spies burglar leaving house with jewelry

Delaware County sheriff's deputies responded Oct. 9 to a burglary in progress in the 1000 block of Abbott Shire Village in Powell.

According to reports, the homeowner watched the burglar exit the side door of the home with jewelry valued at $5,554 and a credit card.

A description of the woman who broke into the home about 12:58 p.m. was included in the report, but no suspect has been charged.

In other recent sheriff's reports:

* Thieves reportedly broke into a concession stand at Olentangy Orange High School, 2840 E. Orange Road, between 10 p.m. Oct. 9 and 8 a.m. Oct. 10. Reports said cabinet doors on the concession stand were broken to access the $696 in cash that was taken.

* A van was reported stolen Oct. 8 from the driveway of a residence in the 5000 block of Butts Road in Powell. Reports said between 5 and 5:32 p.m., the keys left inside the vehicle were used to steal it.

* Between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9, the rear window was broken out of a vehicle parked in the 5000 block of Crabapple Court in Lewis Center, reports said.

* A Columbus man was cited for driving without a license after residents in the 2000 block of Harden Lane in Powell made calls to the sheriff's office because he was soliciting security systems door to door Oct. 9 without a permit, reports said. A deputy who conducted a traffic stop to determine the salesman's credentials learned he was not a registered solicitor or a legal U.S. citizen, according to reports.
