Man who nabbed batteries from store caught a week later

Sheriff's reports

The theft of more than $200 worth of batteries from a Lewis Center store in early December led to an arrest less than a week later.

A Delaware County Sheriff's deputy responded to a report of a theft in progress about 6:20 p.m. Dec. 3 at a business in the 6400 block of Columbus Pike in Lewis Center.

When the deputy arrived, the suspect, who reportedly took 26 packs of batteries, already had left the busi- ness, according to sheriff's reports.

The batteries were valued at $227, police said.

On Dec. 9, deputies arrested a Marion man who was charged with misdemeanor theft in connection with the incident, according to sheriff's reports.

In other recent sheriff's reports:

• A woman living in the 2800 block of Minuteman Court in Liberty Township reported she was scammed out of $7,000 between Nov. 6 and Dec. 3 by someone she met on an online dating site. The identity of the suspect remains unknown, according to sheriff's reports.


A woman reported two jewelry boxes were stolen between 11:30 a.m. Dec. 30 and 11:30 a.m. Dec. 31 from her home in the first block of Valley Run Drive. The rings, watches, necklaces and other jewelry stolen are valued at $31,878, according to Powell police reports.

The victim named two suspects, and an investigation is pending, reports said.

• A man reported a burglary that occurred between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Jan. 2 at his home in the 800 block of Vauxhill Lane. The man said an unknown suspect entered the first floor of the house and stole an envelope containing $5,000 in cash, according to police reports.
