The Liberty Township Powell YMCA will offer two 16-week classes for people diagnosed as pre-diabetic.

The first class runs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Mondays starting Feb. 24 and goes through June 9. The second class will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. from Tuesday, March 4 through June 17.

Both classes will include an exercise component, educational resources and nutrition trackers. At the conclusion of each class, a maintenance class will meet once a month.

Participants who have Medicare and/or United Health Care may take the class for free. Those who don't have either insurance can apply for a scholarship for a portion of the class. According to Michele Cannell, director of member impact of the Y, each class is valued at $429. Some 60 to 70 percent of the cost can be paid through scholarships, Cannell said in an email.

Those who have A1C levels of 5.7-6.4 or fasting glucose levels of 100-125 mg. or a letter from a physician are urged to contact Michele Cannell at 740-881-1058 or mcannell@ ymcacolumbus.org.
