Three men arrested in post-Memorial car theft

Multiple law-enforcement agencies teamed up early Sunday morning, June 1, to apprehend three men after an alleged burglary in southwest Delaware County.

Samuel S. Cochran, 21, of Tartan Fields Drive in Dublin; Joseph W. Leonard III, 20, of East 15th Avenue in Columbus; and Carsten A. Raaum, 21, of Buffalo Grove, Ill., were arrested after allegedly stealing a car from a Concord Township home they entered through the garage, according to a Delaware County Sheriff's Office news release. The three suspects will face charges of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle, among other charges, reports said.

Residents of a home in the 7400 block of Tartan Fields Drive called police about 3 a.m. June 1 after hearing individuals inside the home, according to the release.

The homeowners reportedly witnessed their car being stolen from the residence shortly after they woke up.

The Shawnee Hills Police Department pulled over the suspects less than a mile from the scene, but all three fled on foot, according to the sheriff's office.

Police apprehended one man without incident, while they had to rescue a second suspect who had fallen into a pond. The Powell Police Department's K-9 unit found the third suspect hiding in a wooded area less than an hour later, according to the release.

Police from Columbus and Dublin also assisted in the search for the suspects.

The suspects attended the Memorial Tournament in Dublin before the incident, which may have been spurred by alcohol use, according to the sheriff's office.

As of Monday morning, June 2, the three suspects were at the Delaware County jail awaiting arraignment.
