Jenny Heslop of Lewis Center has received the Marian Porter Huffman Scholarship from Kent State University's School of Library and Information Science (SLIS). The scholarship was established for students who demonstrate the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals.
Celia Emmelhainz of Powell has received the Jesse H. Shera Memorial Scholarship from SLIS. This award was established in memory of Jesse Shera, the dean of the School of Library Science at Case Western Reserve University. Successful applicants are students who maintain an excellent academic record and demonstrate potential for future scholarly research and publication.
Heslop has an undergraduate degree in English (pre-education) from Ohio State University and is pursuing her Master of Library and Information Science at Kent State. She has worked as a youth services specialist at the Delaware County District Library and hopes to be a youth services librarian in a public library.
Emmelhainz has an undergraduate degree in cross-disciplinary studies with a focus in Russian and writing from Ohio Dominican University, as well as a Master of Arts degree in cultural anthropology from Texas A&M University. She is pursuing a Master of Library and Information Science degree with a specialization in academic and digital librarianship at Kent State. Emmelhainz recently worked as the head of libraries at Haileybury International School in Kazakhstan.
