Your photographs wanted

Preservation Parks is looking for great photos taken in the parks in any season. Photos are used on the park district website and Facebook page and in printed materials. The Friends of Preservation Parks chooses photos for use in the picture calendar, a Friends group fundraiser.

Those who have photos to share may contact Preservation Parks at contactparks@preservationparks.com or call 740-524-8600, ext. 5, for complete information on how to submit photos.

Preschool Park Pals, a program for children ages 4-5, begins its 2014-2015 season Sept. 16. The program is presented at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. one Tuesday a month. Each program includes a discussion geared to young children, a hands-on activity and a short outdoor hike, if weather permits. Fall topics are: Magical Monarchs (Sept. 16); Looking at Leaves (Oct. 21); and Lizards vs. Salamanders (Nov. 18). All programs are at Deer Haven Preserve, 4183 Liberty Road.

Registration is mandatory to ensure enough materials, and is required a week ahead of the program. To register, email register@preservationparks.com, or call 740-524-8600, ext. 3.

No registration is necessary to attend these programs:

* Wonders of Wetlands, 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6. Explore wetlands and see what interesting creatures lurk beneath the surface. Nets and collection containers will be provided. All ages. Deer Haven Preserve, 4183 Liberty Road.

* Golden Marathon, 9:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 8. Older adults may take a 1- to 2-mile hike; weekly hikes are held in Preservation Parks and other central Ohio locations. Highbanks Metro Park, 9964 Columbus Pike. Meet in the first parking area on the left.
