Greg Nossaman was pleased that his Olentangy Liberty High School boys basketball team won four of its first five games, but he believes the Patriots have room for improvement.

"We haven't put together 32 minutes yet," said Nossaman, whose team was 3-0 in the OCC-Cardinal Division before playing Westerville North last Tuesday. "We haven't been shooting as well as we would like, but we have played pretty well defensively and we have been able to get some good stops."

The Patriots defeated Olentangy 52-31 last Friday in a league game. Andy Yazrombek led with 12 points, Jake Bischoff scored nine and Nick Archer added eight.

"The big thing for us was outscoring (the Braves) 17-2 in the third quarter," Nossaman said. "We had some great shots in the first two quarters that didn't fall. Then they started to go down in the third. As long as we play good defense and make shots, we'll be OK."

Liberty will be the host school on Wednesday for the Larry Eberst Classic. This season marks the third year of the event, which began as the Delaware County Shootout. The name was officially changed last season in honor of the longtime Delaware coach who died in a small aircraft crash on July 14, 2009.

Buckeye Valley will open the four-game event at 1 p.m. against Dublin Scioto. Orange takes on Dublin Jerome at 3 p.m., with Olentangy playing Big Walnut at 5 p.m. and Liberty facing Delaware at 7 p.m.

"It's a great day of basketball. If you are a hoops junkie, it's your chance to come in and watch some good basketball," Nossaman said. "It's a good opportunity to come in and see all of the schools in Delaware County at one time at one gym. Usually they are all playing at the same time at different places, so you're not able to do that."

Delaware was 5-1 overall before playing Big Walnut last Tuesday. Nossaman said the Pacers would be a good test for his team.

"Delaware has a nice team and (coach) Jordan (Blackburn) does a good job with them," Nossaman said. "They have been getting better with each game and they should be a big challenge for us."

•Olentangy was 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the OCC-Cardinal before playing Jerome last Tuesday.

"We played a tough first half against Liberty and then couldn't get our shots to fall," coach Chris Kelly said. "They had a (17-2) third-quarter run that took us out of the game. We would have been right there if we could have knocked down some shots."

Stephen Walczak scored 11 points to lead the Braves. Lew Staum had eight points and Seth Clark added five.

"We have balanced scoring, but we're looking to score more points," Kelly said. "I'm proud of our defensive effort and we have a lot of guys who were injured in the offseason and were not able to practice as much as they needed. They will get better as the season progresses."

Kelly enjoys participating in the Larry Eberst Classic, where his team will play Big Walnut on Wednesday.

"I think it's been great," Kelly said. "We have played Big Walnut over the past couple of years and it's a great day for basketball in the county. After looking at the lineup, I think it's the best we ever have had."
