At the 74-minute mark and the Olentangy Liberty High School girls soccer team locked in a scoreless game with Olentangy Orange, Patriots freshman forward Natalie Flahive expected a pass from sophomore midfielder Julie Bruno.

Flahive got the ball, just not in the way she expected it.

The ball ricocheted off the crossbar to Flahive, who scored to give the Patriots a 1-0 victory in a non-league game Aug. 25 at Liberty.

"I was looking for a cross from Julia, who was on the outside," Flahive said. "I was running in the middle and she played through a beautiful ball that bounced off the crossbar. The ball just landed right in front of my feet and I just tapped it in."

Liberty improved to 1-0-1 overall, while Orange fell to 0-3.

It was only the second regular-season game between the teams. The Patriots won 3-0 last year.
