Six Olentangy football players sign to play at college level
Six members of the Olentangy High School football team signed letters of intent Feb. 1 to play at the college level, including linebacker and running back Joshua Perry with Ohio State and offensive lineman Kenton Playko with Northwestern.
Last season, Perry, who graduated in December and already has enrolled at Ohio State, had 65 tackles, six sacks, and one interception return for a touchdown and rushed for 1,021 yards and 17 touchdowns on 146 carries. He was named first-team all-OCC-Cardinal Division and all-district in Division I as a linebacker.
Defensive back and running back Will Brett and running back Derrick Rodgers both signed with Ohio Dominican, a Division II school. Last season, Rodgers rushed for 605 yards and three touchdowns on 144 carries and Brett had 110 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries and had four receptions for 71 yards and one touchdown.
Also signing with Division II schools were defensive end Eric Price (Walsh University) and offensive lineman Bryan Young (California University of Pennsylvania).
Another senior, fullback Matt Winings, committed to Defiance College, a Division III school.
Last season, Olentangy finished 5-5 overall and tied Dublin Jerome and Marysville for fourth in the OCC-Cardinal at 4-3.
