Liberty, Olentangy lose in tournament

The Olentangy Liberty High School girls volleyball team lost to second-seeded Pickerington North 25-23, 25-17, 25-20 in a Division I district final Oct. 27 at Big Walnut to finish 16-5.

The fourth-seeded Patriots defeated eighth-seeded Newark 15-25, 25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 15-12 in a district semifinal Oct. 23 at Big Walnut.

Against Newark, Stephanie Ruffing had 16 kills and 13 digs, Jessica Ruffing had 23 kills, Kelsi Robinson had 37 assists, Ellie Schramm had 36 assists, Kenna Koehler had 15 digs and Brooke Knollman had 11 blocks.

"This (Newark) match was a great battle," coach Jen Chapman said. "We started off a little slow and tentative the first game, then picked it up the rest of the night."

Seventh-seeded Olentangy lost to fifth-seeded Hilliard Bradley 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 in a district semifinal Oct. 24 at Big Walnut to finish 19-6.
