The Olentangy and Orange high school wrestling teams advanced past the first round of the Division I state team tournament.
In Region 5-A of the dual-format tournament Jan. 23 at Delaware, the fifth-seeded Braves defeated fourth-seeded Ashland 63-15 and the third-seeded Pioneers beat sixth-seeded Dublin Coffman 57-9.
Olentangy faced top-seeded Marysville and Orange competed against second-seeded Delaware in the second round Jan. 30 at Marysville. The winners faced each other in a semifinal that same day.
The semifinal winner faces Hilliard Bradley, Hilliard Darby, Thomas Worthington or Westerville North in a regional final Wednesday, Feb. 6, at a site to be determined. The regional champion advances to the state tournament Feb. 9.
Liberty's Ryan places first in Grizzly tourney
Liberty, which did not compete in the state team tournament, scored 323.5 points to place fifth in the 16-team Grizzly Tournament Jan. 26 behind champion and host Wadsworth (446.5).
Jake Ryan went 5-0 to place first at 145 pounds.
Going 4-1 and placing second were John Furnas (106), Giuseppe Penzone (120) and Mitch Deruy (220). Connor Thomas (113) went 4-1 and placed third.
The Patriots are 3-2 in the OCC-Central Division and will compete in a league dual Thursday, Jan. 31, at Dublin Coffman.
