Liberty soccer players make college decisions
Five Olentangy Liberty boys soccer players announced their college choices Feb. 6.
Division I signees were forward Sam DeRoy (Wright State) and forward Jared Robinson (Evansville). Other members of the defending Division I state champions planning to play in college are forward Kyle Baum (Ohio Wesleyan), defender Kyle Boone (Heidelberg) and forward Zack Matheny (Capital).
DeRoy had 14 goals and 11 assists, was Player of the Year in both the OCC-Central Division and district, was first-team all-state and was named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in helping lead the Patriots to a 22-1 record and the program’s first state title.
Robinson had 12 goals, including two in the state final as the Patriots defeated Sylvania Southview 2-0. He was first-team all-league and second-team all-district.
Baum scored a team-high 23 goals and was named first-team all-league and -district.
Boone, who was named Special Mention all-league, helped pace a defense that limited its opponents to 15 goals the entire season. His older brother, Jarrod, is a sophomore wrestler at Ohio State.
Matheny, a second-team all-league selection, added eight goals — including two in a 4-1 district final win over Pickerington North.
