Liberty to face UA in district tournament

The Olentangy Liberty High School hockey team faces Upper Arlington in the third round of the district tournament at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the OhioHealth Ice Haus.

The top-seeded Patriots, who are 23-5-5-1, defeated ninth-seeded UA 3-0 on Jan. 13 and 3-1 on Dec. 7.

The winner plays fourth-seeded Cincinnati Moeller or fifth-seeded St. Charles in a district semifinal at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Ice Haus.

St. Charles (23-9-0-1) lost to Liberty 4-1 on Dec. 1 in Capital Hockey Conference play.

Moeller (22-10-2) lost to the Patriots 3-0 on Nov. 30 and Dec. 16 in CHC games.

The winner advances to the district final at 5:30 p.m. March 2 at the Ice Haus.

In its district opener Feb. 16, Liberty defeated Beavercreek 10-0 in the second round.

Senior forward Kyle Horner and senior forward Chris Bergamesca both scored three goals and soph-omore forward Jack Gainor had two goals. Senior forward Noah Allmaras and sophomore forward Brock Rumbaugh also scored and senior goaltender Nick Krave had five saves.

Orange to battle Coffman -- again

Second-seeded Orange plays seventh-seeded Dublin Coffman at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Ice Haus in the third round of district tournament play.

The Pioneers, who are 30-6, have split four games with Coffman this season. They won 3-1 on Feb. 7 in the opening round of the Blue Jackets Cup and 5-2 on Dec. 8 in the Adam Allgeyer Memorial Tournament. The Shamrocks (16-15) won 4-3 on Nov. 25 in the Midwest Thanksgiving Classic and 3-1 on Dec. 22 in CHC play.

The winner plays third-seeded Dublin Jerome (25-8-3) or 10th-seeded DeSales (19-13-1-1) in a district semifinal at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Ice Haus, with that winner moving on to the district final.

Orange defeated Jerome 3-2 in overtime Nov. 24 in the Midwest Thanksgiving Classic and 2-1 on Dec. 15 in league play. The Pioneers lost to the Celtics 2-0 on Feb. 10 in the final of the Blue Jackets Cup.

The Pioneers swept DeSales in CHC play, winning 7-1 on Dec. 21 and 8-0 on Jan. 13.

Orange defeated Gahanna 5-0 on Feb. 17 in the second round of the district tournament. The Pioneers had a first-round bye.

Olentangy falls in tournament opener

Olentangy, the 17th seed, lost to 14th-seeded Thomas Worthington 5-0 on Feb. 15 in the first round of the district tournament.

The Braves finished 8-22-0-1.
