Orange holds off late-charging Coffman for first district title
The Olentangy Orange High School girls basketball team opened a 19-point lead late in the second quarter before holding off a second-half comeback by Dublin Coffman for a 60-47 win in a Division I district title game March 2 at Hilliard Davidson.
It is the Orange’s first district title in the school’s five-year history.
Orange improved to 22-2 and will play Gahanna or Pickerington North in a regional semifinal at 8 p.m. on March 5 at Otterbein. The winner will play for a regional title at 7:15 p.m. March 8 at the same site. Coffman finished the season 20-3.
“They are a special group of seniors and it’s a pretty special moment,” said Orange coach Mary Ann Grimes, who coached Coffman for 12 years before resigning following the 2008-09 season.

Coffman guard Quynh Vo led a comeback in the third quarter, as she scored 11 of her 13 points to close the Shamrocks within 43-38 with 1 minute, 20 seconds left in the quarter.
Orange, however, maintained that lead and pulled away in the final minute.
Sarah Sagerer led Orange with 17 points, Taylor Agler scored 11, and Walker and Maddy Joseph scored 10 apiece.
Sade Olatoye led Coffman with 15 points, and Vo and Kamerine Taylor each scored 13.
