Olentangy coach Terwilliger retiring after 24 seasons
Olentangy High School football coach Ed Terwilliger announced his retirement May 9 after 24 seasons with the Braves.
Terwilliger finished with a record of 138-114 after going 4-26 in his first three seasons at Olentangy. The Braves went 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the OCC-Capital Division last fall, losing 29-14 to Hilliard Davidson in a Division I, Region 3 semifinal. Olentangy, which advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2008, was seeded third in the region and Davidson was seventh.
Terwilliger also guided Olentangy to the playoffs in 1992, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2005 and 2006. The Braves’ best run was in Division II in 1999, when they defeated Brookhaven 21-20 in the opening round and Independence 35-21 in a regional semifinal before losing to Uniontown Lake 42-14 in a regional final.
“My decision to step down was a three-year process and it was solidified by being 100 percent confident that the program is in really, really good shape right now,” Terwilliger told The Columbus Dispatch.
