Orange rips Tri-Valley to reach district final
The Olentangy Orange High School baseball team advanced to a Division I district final after defeating 11th-seeded Dresden Tri-Valley 15-5 in six innings on May 20.
The second-seeded Pioneers were 25-5 before playing sixth-seeded Gahanna on May 22 in the final.
The district champion faces Dublin Jerome, Grove City, Olentangy or Thomas Worthington in a regional semifinal May 30 at Dublin Coffman.
Sophomore Tyler Johnson struck out eight and got the win against Tri-Valley. Senior Brady Harris (1B) and junior Alec McCurry (C) each had a two-run homer as Orange had 14 hits. Junior Cody McCague had a three-run triple.
The Pioneers had a first-round bye before defeating 36th-seeded Worthington Kilbourne 10-0 in six innings in the second round May 15 at home.
Paul Trick pitched a four-hitter against the Wolves with six strikeouts and no walks and singled twice and scored two runs. McCurry doubled and scored one run, outfielder Matt Smith had two RBI and infielder Cody McCague, outfielder Nick Mancini and utility player Michael Richard each had an RBI single.
Braves advance with victory over Coffman
Olentangy advanced to a district semifinal for the fourth consecutive season.
The fifth-seeded Braves were 22-5 before playing seventh-seeded Grove City in a Division I district semifinal May 21 at Hilliard Darby.
The winner plays fourth-seeded Thomas Worthington or ninth-seeded Dublin Jerome in a district final Thursday, May 23, at Otterbein University. The Braves defeated Jerome 4-2 on April 2 but did not play Thomas during the regular season.

The Braves had a first-round bye before defeating 29th-seeded Coffman 3-1 in the second round May 15 at home. Pitcher Casey Stanley scattered 10 hits over seven innings to get the win and had two singles and scored one run.
Utility player Tim Feasel had a triple and single and scored one run, catcher Joe McGuinness hit a solo home run and utility player Christian Brett had an RBI single.
Patriots also reach district semifinal
Seeded eighth, Liberty was 19-9 before playing third-seeded Watkins Memorial in a Division I district semifinal May 21 at Pickerington North.
The winner plays 14th-seeded Marysville or 20th-seeded Westerville North in a district final Thursday, May 23, at Ohio Dominican. The Patriots split their OCC-Central Division games against Marysville, losing 3-1 on April 17 and winning 10-2 on April 25, but have not played Westerville North this season.
The winner faces Darby or Pickerington North in a regional semifinal May 30 at Coffman.
After having a first-round bye, Liberty defeated 25th-seeded New Albany 11-1 in five innings May 15 at home to advance to a district semifinal. Jacob Niggemeyer pitched a three-hitter and had two singles and two RBI.
Utility player Louis Firmstone had three hits, including a double, and three RBI against the Eagles. Infielder Danny Kirchner had two doubles and two RBI, infielder Mitchell Griffiths had an RBI double and catcher Matt Matthaes had an RBI single.
