Braves win finale, fall short of playoff berth

Hayden Hunter rushed for 102 yards on 20 carries to pace the Olentangy High School football team's ground game, and four Braves scored rushing touchdowns in a 27-9 win at Delaware in an OCC-Capital Division game Nov. 1.

Senior Maleke Mitchell had a 5-yard touchdown in the first quarter and sophomore Chris Crumb had a 17-yard score in the second as Olentangy built a 14-3 lead. The Braves extended their lead in the fourth quarter, when junior Anthony Golden scored from 35 yards and sophomore quarterback Jonah Gutentag had a 4-yard touchdown.

Olentangy finished 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the OCC-Capital but fell short of the playoffs, placing 11th in Division II, Region 5. The top eight teams made the postseason.

The Braves held Delaware, which finished 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the league, to 140 total yards while amassing 333.

Patriots avoid losing season

Senior running back Daryian Davies rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns for Liberty in a 41-10 win over visiting Thomas Worthington on Nov. 1.

The Patriots finished 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the OCC-Central. For coach Steve Hale, it marked the first time his team ended the season without a winning record since Liberty's inaugural team went 1-9 in 2003.

Liberty missed the postseason for the fourth consecutive year after reaching the playoffs six consecutive seasons from 2004-09.

Senior quarterback Matt Kessler completed nine of 14 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns against Thomas. His 34-yard touchdown pass to senior Skylar Taphorn gave Liberty a 24-10 lead late in the first half.

Kessler also had an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Thomas quarterback Danny Gordon passed for 171 yards and a touchdown. The Cardinals finished 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the OCC-Central.

Pioneers fall to Wolves in finale

Orange lost to host Worthington Kilbourne 28-7 on Nov. 1 in an OCC-Capital game.

The Pioneers finished 1-9 overall and 1-6 in the league. The Wolves enter the Region 5 playoffs at 9-1 overall and won the league at 7-0.

For Orange, junior quarterback C.J. Stablein connected with senior wide receiver Christian Collins on an 8-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Stablein was 10 of 22 passing for 79 yards and Collins caught two passes for 22 yards.

Sophomore running back Tyler Lichter had three receptions for 34 yards and senior running back Jake Bobrowski rushed for 42 yards on 10 carries.

Senior linebacker Jacob Lewis had nine tackles and junior defensive back Nick Buening had four. Senior defensive lineman Cole Cunningham had 1.5 sacks and senior linebacker Justin Gels had one.
