Jen Odebrecht, who has coached the Olentangy Orange High School girls soccer team since its inception in 2008, resigned Nov. 18.
Odebrecht was 65-39-7 in six seasons, with a Division II district runner-up finish in 2008 and Division I district runner-up seasons in 2011 and 2012. The Pioneers won their first league championship this year, going 11-6 overall and 6-0 in the OCC-Capital Division.
Odebrecht, who is a social studies teacher at Orange, missed the final three weeks of the season after giving birth to her first child, Reece Kyle, on Sept. 26.
“It’s hard to know when to let go, but I became a mom in the middle of the season and things still ran smoothly,” Odebrecht said. “Before I became a mom, this program basically was my child. This gave me a chance to step back and realize there’s space in my life for other things.”
Odebrecht, a 1998 graduate of Thomas Worthington, was starting goalkeeper for the Cardinals’ 1997 Division I state runner-up team. She went on to play and coach at Rollins College in Florida.
