Jimmy Gundling scored 18 points to lead the Olentangy High School boys basketball team past host Mount Vernon 66-59 on Feb. 1 in an OCC-Capital Division contest.
The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Braves, who were 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the league before playing Worthington Kilbourne on Feb. 4.
Derrick Wyche scored 11 points against the Yellow Jackets, and Obi Anunike and Ryan Sieve both added 10.
Gundling scored 21 points and Sieve had 12 points on four 3-pointers against Franklin Heights on Jan. 29, but the Braves lost 79-59 in an OCC-Capital game. Seth O'Neal had six points and Christian Mazzeo added five.
On Jan. 31, the Braves lost to New Albany 67-49 in league play as Gundling scored 22 points. O'Neal scored six points and Andrew Kaylor and Wyche had four apiece.
Before Feb. 4, New Albany led the OCC-Capital at 7-2, followed by Delaware and Kilbourne at 7-3. Franklin Heights was next at 5-5, followed by Olentangy, Mount Vernon (4-7) and Big Walnut and Orange (3-7 each).
Pioneers pick up third victory
Orange was 3-13 overall before playing Franklin Heights on Feb. 4.
Jay Joseph and Colin Shepherd both scored 10 points to lead the Pioneers in a 53-50 victory over Mount Vernon on Jan. 29. Haydn Audsley, Dave Dawson and Grant Gossard scored nine points apiece.
On Jan. 31, Joseph scored 10 points in a 39-29 loss to Delaware. Will Phillis added eight points.
On Feb. 1, Gossard scored 17 points in a 46-44 loss to Springboro. Dawson scored 14 points with four 3-pointers, Joseph had seven points and Shepherd added six.
Patriots win two consecutive games
Liberty was 11-8 overall and 8-3 in the OCC-Central before playing Hilliard Davidson on Feb. 4.
Law Jones scored 19 points, Mike DeLeon had 17 and A.J. Kullman added 12 in a 65-44 win over Westland on Jan. 31 in league play.
On Feb. 1, DeLeon scored 21 points in a 57-39 win over DeSales. Brenden White had 11 points and Kullman scored nine.
The Patriots lost to Marysville 69-64 in overtime Jan. 29. Zach Nice scored 17 points, Jones had 13, Brad Smith had 11, DeLeon scored eight and White added seven.
Before Feb. 4, Upper Arlington led the OCC-Central at 9-1, followed by Dublin Coffman (8-2), Liberty, Thomas Worthington (6-3), Marysville (5-6), Davidson (3-8), Westland (3-8) and Central Crossing (0-11).
