Pioneers enter Cup on 4-game winning streak

The Olentangy Orange High School hockey team finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak, taking a 23-4-3-1 overall record into the Blue Jackets Cup on Thursday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 9, at OhioHealth Ice Haus and Chiller Dublin.

The Pioneers went 13-0-2-1 in the Capital Hockey Conference to win the CHC-Red Division with 29 points.

Orange was ranked second in the district behind St. Charles and eighth in the state behind top-ranked Cleveland St. Ignatius in last week's polls.

The Pioneers defeated Upper Arlington 3-2 on Feb. 2 as Brandon Voytus scored twice and Luke Buchy scored once.

On Feb. 1, Buchy and Hunter Shepherd both had two goals in a 6-5 win over Cincinnati Moeller. Cole Essig and Sean Murley both scored once and Cameron Beck had 10 saves.

Orange defeated Watterson 9-2 on Jan. 31 as Shepherd scored three times and Buchy and Voytus both had two goals. Essig and Gabe Horvath both had one goal and Kyle Jones had 12 saves.

Bergamesca leads Patriots in wins

Liberty, which was fourth in last week's district poll, beat DeSales 5-1 on Feb. 2 to improve to 14-11-7 overall entering the Blue Jackets Cup.

The Patriots finished third in the CHC-White at 9-2-5 (23 points).

Chris Bergamesca scored three times against the Stallions. Cole Bumpass and Jimmy Bursinger both had one goal and Cam Perry had 28 saves.

Bergamesca, Zach Boll, Bursinger and Jack Gainor all scored in a 4-1 win over Olentangy on Jan. 31. Perry had 10 saves.

Dop makes 50 saves in Braves' loss

Olentangy got 50 saves from Ryan Dop on Feb. 2, but lost to St. Charles 9-0 to fall to 12-16-2 overall.

The Braves finished third in the CHC-Blue (6-10, 12 points) behind champion Watterson (7-9, 14) and will play in the Blue Jackets Cup consolation tournament Friday, Feb. 7, through Sunday, Feb. 9, at OhioHealth Ice Haus and Chiller Dublin.

Landon Diedrich had 39 saves in a 7-3 loss to DeSales on Feb. 1. Brian Brown, Austin Moore and Josh Seemann all scored.

Seemann scored and Dop had 25 saves in a 4-1 loss to Liberty on Jan. 31.
