Olentangy Liberty High School students Mitchell Griffiths, Nick Newton and Jacob Niggemeyer have signed to play baseball in college.

Olentangy Liberty High School students Mitchell Griffiths, Nick Newton and Jacob Niggemeyer have signed to play baseball in college.

Niggemeyer, a pitcher, third baseman and outfielder, will play at Ohio State. He was first-team all-district in Division I and OCC-Central Division Player of the Year last spring, when he batted .500 with four homers, 41 RBI, 11 doubles and 24 runs. He also was 6-2 with 62 strikeouts, 15 walks and a 1.90 ERA in 51 innings.

Griffiths, a pitcher, will play at Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, W.Va. He was honorable mention all-league last season, going 3-2 with two saves, 33 strikeouts, 14 walks and a 3.95 ERA in 39 innings.

Newton, a pitcher, will play at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He has not played with Liberty since his freshman season, but has played summer travel baseball.

The Patriots finished 19-10 overall last season, losing to Watkins Memorial 2-1 in a district semifinal. They tied Marysville for second (9-5) in the OCC-Central behind Thomas Worthington (11-3).
