The Olentangy, Liberty and Orange high school boys and girls bowling teams all qualified for the Division I district tournament Saturday, March 1, at Eastland Lanes.
The top 20 teams from the boys and girls sectional tournaments Feb. 21 at Eastland Lanes advanced. At district, the top four teams and top four individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the state tournament March 7 (boys) and March 8 (girls) at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl.
For Olentangy, the boys team finished seventh (3,592) in the 40-squad sectional behind champion Walnut Ridge (3,805). Sophomore Dominic Spain led the way (tied for 55th, 503 series), followed by sophomore Andrew Foust (tied for 57th, 502) and junior Patrick Balling (65th, 494).
Led by senior Kaitlyn Kelley (31st, 459) and senior Lizzie Wiesenstein (81st, 370), the Braves girls squad finished 10th (2,806) in the 37-team sectional behind champion Briggs (3,345).
Orange's boys team finished 12th (3,474), with senior Tyler Shields (seventh, 593), junior Stephen Spezzano (41st, 523) and junior Ben Kunz (108th, 438) leading the way.
The Pioneers girls squad placed 14th (2,624). Freshman Sarah Kate Palmer was 11th (489), followed by junior Djahne Stroud (28th, 462), senior Kelsey Krumm (106th, 333) and junior Raelynn Bishop (122nd, 309).
Liberty's girls team finished 15th (2,621), with freshman Ali Tomsho (44th, 433), junior Carly Schoonover (47th, 426) and sophomore Sydney Paris (52nd, 412) leading the way.
The Patriots boys squad was 18th (3,372), led by freshman Jack Baggs (16th, 553), senior David Valz (43rd, 520) and junior Mike Shiner (tied for 83rd, 474).
