As the champion of the OCC-Ohio Division, the Pickerington High School North boys golf team not only is proud of its accomplishment, but how it was accomplished.

Boasting a strong lineup one through five, North went 27-1 in league play, finishing ahead of runner-up Central at 21-7 and Gahanna and Grove City at 20-8. Cody Fixari was first individually, with Austin Green third and Shane Siebert fifth. All three were first-team all-OCC-Ohio.

"Cody is a senior and one of the better players in the district and Austin is one of the better juniors in central Ohio," coach Casey Milligan said. "We knew we would be very strong at the top, but over the last couple of weeks our other three players have been really carrying the load."

Rounding out the lineup are Chris Reed and Drew Thompson. North is the second seed and will play Wednesday in the Division I sectional at Granville Golf course.

Other teams at that site include Gahanna, Lancaster, Marysville, Newark, Northland, Olentangy Liberty, Reynoldsburg, Upper Arlington, Westerville South and Whetstone.

"We were fortunate enough to get the No. 2 seed," Milligan said. "You'd have to hope we could get to the district and maybe put up a good number and see how it goes. At that district tournament, seven to eight teams there could be fighting for those three qualifying spots. You got to play well on that day."

Milligan is confident his team's depth will be a determining factor. Confidence also will be on display as North heads out on the Granville course.

"We've won two sectionals in the last three years and finished second the other year at Granville," Milligan said. "We've had success there and we're very familiar with that course."

ĽThe sectional draw for Central worked out perfectly, according to coach Chris Cores.

The Tigers will play Wednesday at Darby Creek with Big Walnut, Delaware, Dublin Coffman, Dublin Scioto, Franklin Heights, Hilliard Darby, Mount Vernon, Watkins Memorial, Watterson, Westerville Central, Westland and Worthington Kilbourne.

"Over the last three years we've had a lot of success at Darby Creek," Cores said. "After last year's sectional, we're trying for a little payback."

Last season, Central finished 10th (339) at the Darby Creek sectional as Watterson (302) was first.

On Aug. 13, Central finished second (310) in first round of OCC-Ohio tournament at Darby Creek behind North (302). Central's Matt Culp shot an even-par 72.

"Our home course, Turnberry, is links style and the front nine at Darby Creek is links style," Cores said. "The course as a whole sets up good for our guys."

Culp continued his strong play throughout the season and finished second in the OCC-Ohio behind Fixari.

Connor Reed also has provided stability for the Tigers.

"He's been a solid golfer and that's what you need," Cores said. "He's around 78 to 81 in every match and is someone you can go out there and count on. The other guys need to match the consistency of Connor and Matt."
