Pickerington Boy Scout Mason Carter has started an Eagle Scout project that will cause some Pickerington residents to see red.

Carter is a junior at Pickerington Central High School. His goal is to wire brush, prime and paint 75 to 100 fire hydrants bright red in the Glenshire and Summerfield subdivisions of Pickerington.

Carter is a member of Troop 826, based in Reynoldsburg, but as a lifelong Pickerington resident, he said he wanted his project to benefit the area. Don Sherman, the deputy director of utilities for Fairfield County, assisted Carter by helping to identify hydrants that Scouts could paint while being safe from major traffic issues.

The county supplied specialty paint and some supplies. Carter raised money for his project by selling and delivering mulch.
