For the 10th consecutive year, the Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce will put local culinary and entertainment talents on display Oct. 3.

The annual Taste of Pickerington & Fall Fest will be held at the corner of Columbus and Center streets from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 3. There is no admission charge, but visitors who want to sample food provided by 13 local restaurants will pay $1 per serving.

Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce president Helen Mayle said between 6,000 and 7,000 people attended the Taste of Pickerington and Fall Fest last year. She's hoping for a similar turnout this year.

The event will be over well before kickoff of the Ohio State-Indiana football game at 7 p.m. on Oct. 3, she said.

As part of the Taste of Pickerington, visitors will be able to vote for their favorite participating restaurant. The winner will leave with the "Purple Spatula" trophy.

Additionally, football players from Pickerington High School Central and Pickerington High School North will face off in a wing-eating contest.

Last year, UNO's Pizzeria and Central took home the Purple Spatula and wing-eating trophy, respectively.

Combined with the Taste is the annual Fall Fest, which features offerings from at least 30 local businesses, health screenings and children's activities, including storytelling and a chance to meeting local law enforcement officers.

Additionally, the Fall Fest will once again showcase local talent.

"We have a talent show, and if people want to participate they just need to call the Chamber," Mayle said. "It's any kind of talent -- singing, dancing, whatever. We have cash prizes for that."
