Junior Val Jeffery, a 5-foot-10 setter for the Pickerington High School North girls volleyball team, has verbally committed to play for High Point University in High Point, N.C.

Jeffery, an AAU All-American, didn't play high school volleyball last season after transferring from Pickerington Central to North.

"One of the most impressive things about Val was she wasn't eligible to play last year but she was one of the hardest working kids on our team," North coach Kris Kern said. "Even though she didn't have anything to play for she remained committed and helped us prepare for games."

High Point finished 22-13 overall last year, losing to Duke 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. It won its first Big South Conference title with a 13-3 record.

The team currently has two Ohioans on its roster in junior setter Lauren Bell, a Dublin Coffman graduate, and sophomore middle blocker Michelle Chakirelis from Bay Village Bay.
