The Southeastern Ohio Center for Independent Living has scheduled a program for parents and teachers of children with autism spectrum disorders.

The Southeastern Ohio Center for Independent Living has scheduled a program for parents and teachers of children with autism spectrum disorders.

Dr. Anya M. Froelich, a psychologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, will discuss toilet training children with autism spectrum disorders from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Ohio University Lancaster Campus, 1570 Granville Pike. The presentation will cover behavior principles, strategies and everyday applications useful in toilet training a child with ASD, including using public restrooms.

The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Call Linda McDonald at (740) 689-1494 to register. Certificates of attendance and CEUs are available upon request.

The Fairfield County Autism Support Group will meet following the presentation.

A “Shred Day” paper-recycling event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 8, at Spence Funeral Home, 650 W. Waterloo St. in Canal Winchester.

Participants can bring up to five boxes of papers to be shredded. Donations of clothing and household items will be accepted for the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Nonperishable food and cash donations will be accepted for the Canal Winchester food pantry.
