Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce members don't often get the chance to compete in athletic endeavors against each other, but that will change with
"Gobblers and Gutterballs," a chamber-sponsored event, is planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Rule 3, 650 Windmiller Drive.
Event organizer Jen Dear said the Thanksgiving-themed bowling outing provides a unique opportunity for the organization's members to network in a stress-free environment without the usual fanfare that accompanies some of its more formal events.
"We hold these events at least once a year, it's just another way for us to network," Dear said.
"It provides our members a night out to grab a beer in T-shirts and jeans," she said.
"Overall, it's good to do some laid back and relaxed networking (compared) to what we do at our luncheons," Dear said.
While she expects great results in the networking department, she appraised the overall quality of competition as perhaps less than stellar.
"It's usually really bad bowling," Dear said.
"Lots of fun, but really, really bad bowling," she said.
Dear said the Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce has about 350 businesses in its membership rolls, with 525 active individual members.
"We might have one or two 'serious' bowlers, but this is an opportunity to kick back with people that we do business with on a regular basis and see them in a different setting," Dear said.
She said non-bowlers are also welcome to attend and "hang out and make fun of the bowlers."
The event is $65 per team, with 4 to 6 bowlers per lane.
Dear said the Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging the general public to attend its membership luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 in the Pickerington Senior Center.
"It's a great opportunity to network and exchange cards," Dear said.
"The networking group meets prior to the luncheon from 11 to 11:30 a.m.," she said, adding that the focus of the luncheon meeting will be on marketing as well as the discounts and benefits available to members.
The luncheon is open to the public and is $11 for members with a reservation and $15 for non-members.
"Our focus and where we really try to excel for our members is in the area of networking and marketing," Dear said.
