A male Northern Cardinal puffs his feathers as he tries to stay warm in a tree on Willow Run Drive in Pickerington Jan. 1. Cardinals don’t migrate nor molt, according to the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology, so their brilliant hues are a pleasant contrast to winter’s gray tones. Birds and other area wildlife might get a reprieve from winter’s wrath during a warmup this weekend, but colder temperatures are expected at the beginning of next week.
