After interviewing several candidates, the Violet Township Board of Trustees unanimously voted to approve the hiring of Benjamin King as the township's new Director of Operations at a special meeting Feb. 11.
The trustees were expected to officially ratify the appointment at the board's regular meeting Feb. 19.
King has spent the last 61/2 years with the city of Pataskala as its public services director.
He will start his new job with Violet Township on March 3.
Violet Township Trustee Harry Myers, Jr. said King brings a wealth of experience to the township garnered from his service in the government sector.
"We just felt he was the right person for the position," Myers said.
"We interviewed more than a couple of (candidates), and he came out on top," Myers said.
"I'm looking forward to it," King said.
"There are a lot of great things going on in Violet Township and I'm excited to be part of it," he said.
King will replace outgoing Director of Operations Bill Yaple, who is retiring, effective March 31.
Yaple said the one month overlap will help King get acclimated to the position.
Yaple has been with Violet Township since January 1998.
He started as a zoning officer and became director of operations in 2001.
Yaple said he will continue to serve on the Fairfield County Regional Planning Commission as well as on the board of directors of the Fairfield Medical Center.
